(Andy Griffith Playhouse, Mt. Airy, NC)
Monday was the first day of my favorite month of the year. I absolutely LOVE September! Summer isn't quite over. Yet, you start to experience some of the crisp mornings and the first signs that fall is just around the corner. No holidays to worry about decorating for, although I DO start bringing out some of the fall decor. There's a feeling of "preparing for winter" that I have always loved. It's such a cozy time of year. And I LOVE "cozy"! And best of all, FOOTBALL begins! Go Hawks!
And this year, it's even more special, as September brings a feeling of normalcy and getting back into the swing of things around here. I just spent most of August on the road, and being back home feels SO good! My daughter and her husband flew out to North Carolina on the 10th. She begged us to go, as well. I agreed to meet them out there and decided to drive, instead. This made for my fifth cross country trip to NC. So, on August 5th, me and my two boys headed out. My husband will often fly out to meet me there on these trips and then fly back. This year, though, it was just me and the kids. At least I had a little help driving this time; but usually, I like to be behind the steering wheel. We drove straight there...five long, hard days of driving. However, on the trip back, we stopped to do a little sightseeing in Colorado. A few photos from our trip...
I grew up about 80 miles from here. I love and miss the Outerbanks so much!
We had a beautiful day for our visit to Nags Head! Skies were blue, water was warm and waves were perfect...if not a bit on the gentle side. I didn't want to leave!
Kitty Hawk! The Washington coast doesn't hold a candle to the North Carolina beaches!
LOVE this road in central Colorado. Our first stop was Colorado Springs.
And this beautiful park!
And then it was on to Great Sand Dunes National Park. Interesting place. Strange to have these sand dunes out in the middle of the mountains!
After leaving the sand dunes, we had such a beautiful drive! LOVE this part of Colorado!
And our last day...heading home from Twin Falls, ID, we stopped at this scenic area. Bridge over the Snake River Canyon.
It was a nice trip, and probably the last cross country trip I will take with my kids. Next time I set out on a trip like this, I hope it will be in an RV after hubby retires!
I'm back and sewing again...and hopefully I'll have some new fall and Halloween prims to show you soon. Until then, Happy September! ~~Annie
