The Perfect Weekend!

It was a gorgeous weekend up here in the Pacific Northwest and hubby and I took advantage of it yesterday. We headed to breakfast in the little community of Fall City, which lies along the beautiful Snoqualmie River. This is such a quaint community nicely removed from the urban area surrounding Seattle. We ate here at the Fall City Roadhouse. From there we headed to Snoqualmie Falls. We took a little side road that ran along the river and came up on this unique little neighborhood. It lies on a small airstrip and not only do the residents have garages for their cars, they have their own hangers, or garages for their airplanes! They use the very same road the cars use to get to the airstrip. Now that would have been a sight to be driving down the street and meet up with an airplane.
This was the only house I could see that had an open hanger that I could see the plane. What a way to commute! From there we continued along the river and came up on these guys practicing water rescue maneuvers.

It was interesting watching, as one would float down the river and another would jump in to rescue him!

This was further down the road. Just HAD to get out and snap a shot at these trees. No...my camera was straight! They looked SO neat and if you click to enlarge the photo, you'll see they are covered in our wonderful moss we grow so excessively up here!

With all the rain we get up here, our cows tend to rust while standing out to pasture!
We arrived at Snoqualmie Falls and as we walked into the park I immediately noticed the vibrant colors. The water fall is gorgeous, and the grounds throughout the park were draped in fully bloomed azaleas! What a beautiful sight!

This was taken from the walkway that goes over the main road, looking down over the park area.

Snoqualmie Falls is absolutely gorgeous, and if you're ever in this area, it's a definite must-see! This can be a vicious river during the winter months and it showed it's fury this past winter, flooding the Snoqualmie Valley. I have seen these falls when you couldn't see a speck of the brown rock, only a solid sheet of white raging down!
I had to get this shot of the contrast in color! This picture showed the beauty of the entire day!
From there we drove into the town of Snoqualmie, which is an old logging town. It houses a graveyard of old trains.

This is such an interesting and educational walk along the many "retired" and rusted trains.

From there it was on to North Bend, nestled in the shadow of rugged Mt. Si and at the base of the Cascade Mountains.
I walked through the neatest antique store. I had to snap a photo of this vintage stove. Isn't it the coolest!

This was such a unique antique/junk store. You'd think they were in the midst of moving...whether in or out. Boxes everywhere filled with junk for you to browse through. This picture shows a little of it's cramped quarters. The entire store looked as if people were working on their booths. If you happened to run up on another customer, you had to find a cubby to squeeze into to let them by! But I was told this is the way it always is. Had a hard time getting to some things I was interested in because of everything in front of it! But it sure was fun walking through...TWICE!
As we drove home I made one last stop at my favorite dig that I wrote about in "A Junker's Paradise". It was nice to see John and to pick up a few more goodies. I told him about blogging about his wonderful shop and how I had had so many people email me from Washington asking me where this wonderful place was! He thanked me and gave me a big hug. He's just the sweetest ole man!
Today was another beautiful day and the family treated me to breakfast and a day at the lake. My daughter surprised me by driving down from college. Had no idea she was coming home and she walked into the restaurant just as we had sat down. It has been a beautiful day and a beautiful weekend. Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! ~~Annie
